P. Gilbert graduated from the Yanbian Art College in 1994. As a student he studied and mastered the techniques of impressionist styls of painting. He also integrated this into his traditional Chinese landscapes.

He likes to paint scenes from Europe, especially Italy and France. His painting style is clearly distinguished by his use of the palette knife, bold brushstrokes, and heavy layers of paint, with rich and strong colors.

Gilbert has been in numerous exhibitions including the Jilin Province Art Exhibition, the Group Exhibition in Beijing, and the national Young Artist's Exhibition.
