Elizabeth Kresch

Turquoise with sterling and pyrite necklace

About the Artist

Elizabeth's entrance into the art of jewelry design and fabrication this summer was both unplanned and unexpected.  The manager of a favorite store in which she shopped commented on her unusual jewelry and, finding that Elizabeth designed and made the pieces, the manager inquired if she would have an interest in selling some work throuh the store.  Elizabeth was intrigued with the idea, and went home and started work.  She was immediately completely involved in her new endeavor.  She sort of jokingly says that the reason she started making the pieces to begin with was because she loved wearing bold, unusual, "arty" jewelry, and was unable to find things she liked.   No wonder her work seems so "arty".  She has painted for many years, and loves all the arts - including music which is one of her passions.  She is always on the prowl for unusual rough stones, fossils, petrified wood, big beads, and new and wonderful textures.  She is expanding her work with sterling silver, and plans to focus in that area in the coming months, designing unusual silver pendants to be shown off by wonderful and unusual beads.  She refuses to copy her own work or anyone else's, so each of her pieces is strictly "one of a kind".   Totally absorbed in her new endeavor, she is either actually fabricating new pieces, or day-dreaming designs.  She laughs about jumping out of bed and going into her studio at 4AM when she awoke with a vision for a new piece recently.  Her bold designs and striking pieces are truly a labor of love.  She and her husband moved to Kansas City from New York 15 years ago.  She holds a bachelor's degree from Fordham University with a minor in art.
