Iron Deposit on Stones #16

About the Artist

Kathleen Patton has been a working Graphic and Fine Artist in the Kansas City area for over 25 years. Using Lacquer as a medium since 2001, the vibrant colors and unique blending capabilities has complimented her favorite subjects of Koi ponds and Alaskan river stones.

The Iron Deposits on Stones paintings developed from a trip to Alaska where water, rich in iron, had dripped onto river rocks located in the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve. The natural coloration and circular patterns, created by the constant dripping, was the inspiration for the series.
In addition to the stones, Koi Ponds are a favorite subject to paint.  Two styles are used – a traditional blending of brush strokes while others are in a pointillist style incorporating blue, green and orange Lacquer dots to accentuate the Koi's graceful turns through the water.
